Nahverkehr Dresden: Riesa Route is a well-known expansion for the Train Sim World franchise, spanning versions TSW 2 through 4 and beyond. This add-on focuses on simulating regional and long-distance rail operations across busy lines in Saxony, Germany.

Overview of the Route

The expansion simulates a key stretch of German railway, known for its busy mix of regional, S-Bahn (commuter), inter-city, and freight services. It was a core component of the Rush Hour collection, which introduced higher passenger volumes and complex peak-time operations.

Key specifics of the route include:

  • Main Line: The primary 83 km (51-mile) line connecting Dresden Hauptbahnhof to Riesa Hauptbahnhof, featuring both fast and slow lines to manage diverse traffic.
  • Branches: The package also incorporates a 5 km branch leading to Großenhain Cottbuser Bahnhof and a 9 km branch line extending to Meißen Triebischtal (the Meißen line was later added as a free update).

Included Locomotives and Rolling Stock

The add-on provides a variety of authentic German rolling stock to manage the different services:

  • DB BR 442 “Talent 2”: A modern electric multiple unit (EMU) typically assigned to S-Bahn and local regional routes.
  • DB BR 143: A classic, versatile electric locomotive.
  • DB BR 146.2 & Doppelstock Coaches: This combination of locomotive and double-decker coaches is utilized for regional express services.
  • MRCE BR 185.5: A black-liveried electric locomotive dedicated to freight operations.
  • DB BR 363: A robust diesel shunter locomotive used for freight yard maneuvers and light shunting duties.

Availability

The “Nahverkehr Dresden” add-on is available for purchase on PC (via Steam or Epic Games), Xbox, and PlayStation platforms.

Thanks to the Train Sim World “Preserved Collection” feature, owners of the route can typically carry their purchase forward to newer editions of the game (e.g., from TSW3 to TSW4) without needing to repurchase the content.
