The West Somerset Railway is a highly popular, extensively remastered route add-on for the Train Sim World series, including Train Sim World 4 and Train Sim World 5. It offers a detailed simulation of Britain’s longest standard gauge heritage railway.

Key Features of the Add-On

• Authentic Route: The add-on simulates the full 22.75-mile line, which typically runs from Minehead to Bishops Lydeard (near Taunton). The route’s scenery, encompassing the Bristol Channel coast and the Quantock Hills, was comprehensively updated in a free remaster for TSW4 users in February 2024, adding improved textures, foliage, lighting, and a short track boundary extension.
• Included Locomotives: The add-on features two classic British Rail diesel locomotives:
  • BR Class 47: Main line locomotive D1661 ‘North Star’, presented in a British Railways Two-Tone Green Livery.
  • BR Class 09: Shunting locomotive D4107 (09 019), in a British Railways Green Livery.
• Gameplay and Scenarios: The core gameplay focuses on a 24-hour “Diesel Gala” event timetable. Players operate services with a real-world maximum speed of 25 mph, providing a relaxing, scenic experience reflective of actual heritage railway operations.
• Expandable Content: The route is designed with “layers” that integrate with other TSW add-ons. Players who own compatible content, such as the Flying Scotsman or steam locomotives from the Peak Forest route, can run them on the West Somerset Railway line.
• Thomas & Friends Add-On: A separate, official add-on titled Thomas & Friends™ Visit the West Somerset Railway is available for TSW5, featuring Thomas the Tank Engine, Annie, Clarabel, and Diesel in unique story-based scenarios.
